An unusual chase unfolded on W. Plank Road on March 28, 2026, when deputies spotted a man riding a black mini-bike, sporting a ski mask and red backpack, without any visible registration. Ignoring police lights, he sped off down the center turn lane, then proceeded to flee into a nearby cornfield. When officers approached, he made another attempt to escape, but K-9 Freya was released and apprehended him swiftly. “He was told to stop or K9 Freya would be released. He yelled, “I’m on a mini‑bike, no,” and then immediately tried to flee again. K-9 Freya disagreed with that plan.”
The suspect suffered a minor bite injury and was treated with antibiotics. The mini-bike rider now faces several charges and is currently being held at the Peoria County Jail.
He later told the Peoria County Sheriff’s Office that he ran “because he “just doesn’t like dealing with the police,” and that he planned to handle his warrant “another day.” Today became that day.”
