The City Council of Kewanee has announced the intent to officially appoint Kasey Mitchell as the city’s new City Manager. Kasey Mitchell brings a wealth of experience to the role, having previously served with distinction as City Clerk and more recently as Interim City Manager. After a thorough search and evaluation process of canditates, city officials determined Mitchell possessed the leadership and expertise needed to guide Kewanee’s municipal operations. The appointment, effective immediately, includes terms and conditions outlined in a new employment agreement. As City Manager, Mitchell will oversee day-to-day operations, implement local policies, and work closely with council members to serve residents. The appointment takes effect immediately, following approval of the terms in the employment agreement at the April 13, 2026, Kewanee City Council meeting. A RESOLUTION APPOINTING A CITY MANAGER FOR THE CITY OF KEWANEE.
WHEREAS, the City of Kewanee operates under the council-manager form of government pursuant to the laws of the State of Illinois; and
WHEREAS, the position of City Manager became vacant, necessitating the initiation of a search process to identify a qualified candidate to serve in this capacity; and
WHEREAS, the City Council conducted a search and evaluation process to select a candidate with the experience, qualifications, and leadership necessary to effectively manage the operations of the City; and
WHEREAS, Kasey Mitchell has served the City of Kewanee with distinction as City Clerk and has further demonstrated leadership and capability while serving as Interim City Manager; and
WHEREAS, the City Council finds that Kasey Mitchell possesses the necessary qualifications, experience, and dedication to serve as City Manager and to carry out the duties and responsibilities of the office;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF KEWANEE, HENRY COUNTY, ILLINOIS, AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1 Kasey Mitchell is hereby appointed to the position of City Manager for the City of Kewanee, effective immediately, subject to the terms, conditions, compensation, and benefits of an employment agreement approved by the City Council.
Section 2 The City Manager shall have and exercise all powers and perform all duties of the office as prescribed by Illinois law, City ordinances, and the employment agreement.
Section 3 This Resolution shall be in full force and effect immediately upon its passage and approval as provided by law.
