Kewanee Mayor Gary Moore and newly appointed City Manager Kasey Mitchell joined Wake Up Tri-Counties to talk about the decision to offer the role to the first-ever female, Kasey Mitchell. Kewanee has named Kasey Mitchell as its new City Manager after a period serving in the interim role. Mayor Gary Moore spoke highly of Mitchell’s transition, explaining that while she was initially hesitant to take the permanent position, her confidence grew with support from staff and council. Moore emphasized the city’s open application process and expressed pride in hiring Kewanee’s first female city manager, describing the decision as the easiest of his tenure. Mitchell highlighted the strength of her team and the importance of collaboration, organization, and leadership. The city will now seek a part-time City Clerk to fill her previous post.

Kasey Mitchell said, “It definitely took a little bit of talking into, with all the support from my staff, my department heads, and the council, and being in the seat for a while. Definitely knowing a little bit more about what it entails and what my strengths are. I was able to be talked into it because I knew that a majority of the work I could handle, and I have enjoyed handling it,” regarding her decision to accept the position.

Mitchell said, “It’s a little shocking to be honest, but it is a true honor to have that title, that position. I would have never thought this is where I would be. When I first applied to the city, I was just excited to be able to work in my hometown. And now to be able to help lead my hometown is just—all I can say is it’s a true honor,” regarding being the first female city manager for Kewanee.

Mayor Gary Moore said on a Facebook post, “Congratulations to our new City Manager, Kasey Mitchell. We are very happy to see this position come full circle. You have worked hard for many years and all of the city workers and administration would agree this position is well deserved in being recognized and respectively given to one of our own and most deserving. Thank you for your continued service to our city. We know you will be a fantastic leader in our city administration. #kewaneeproud
