The 8th Annual Welding Invitational drew 49 students from seven area high schools to Black Hawk College’s state-of-the-art Welding and Skilled Trades Center in downtown Kewanee. Sherrard High School demonstrated remarkable consistency, capturing the team title for the fifth consecutive year. Maxx Starcevich of Sherrard took the top individual honor, earning a $1,000 Black Hawk College East Foundation scholarship to further his welding education. Kewanee and Mercer County teams rounded out the top three, while students from Galva, Farmington, Stark County, and Williamsfield also showcased their talents. The event continues to thrive with sponsorship from Martin Engineering.
