Spain legislation dealing with Mobile ID passes in House
In November last year the Secretary of State launched Mobile ID (Driver’s Licenses and identification cards). During the rulemaking process, the Secretary of State made an agreement with the Joint Committee on Administrative Rules (JCAR) to update the enabling statute.
State Representative Ryan Spain (R-Peoria)passed House Bill 2273 out of the House that will do just that.
This legislation will ensure that the identification card and driver’s licensing statutes are consistent and reflect current processes and best practices.
The measure also deals with presenting the mobile ID to law enforcement. 04292026Spain_HB2273
Which means keeping law enforcement from physically taking someone’s phone to verify their mobile ID.
Rep. Spain’s bill now heads to the Senate for their consideration. Similar legislation has been passed in the Senate and the representative will be carrying that bill (SB3449) in the House.
