Rep. Ryan Spain – Sales Tax Holiday is The Right Thing to Do

Prices of gasoline in the state of Illinois have climbed to a range of around $4.75 for regular unleaded in southern Illinois to over $5.30 in parts of the Chicagoland area. While prices have spiked since the conflict in Iran, the state still imposes a 49.6 cent per gallon tax. According to the Department of Revenue, the gas tax in Illinois will increase from 49.6 to 66.6 cents per gallon on July 1st.

House Republicans are looking for some relief from the tax burden for state drivers and are calling for a sales tax holiday.

State Representative Ryan Spain of Peoria has filed HB5738.
