Kewanee Police Investigating Skeletal Remains Discovered in Northeast Park Waste Holding Tank

Update – Northeast Park reopens to the public at 8 AM on May 28th.
Authorities in Kewanee have launched an investigation after workers discovered skeletal remains, including what “appeared to be a human skull,” while emptying a restroom waste holding tank at Northeast Park. Police were alerted by a park district employee around 3 PM on May 27th. The Kewanee Police Department, along with the Henry County Sheriff’s Office, Illinois State Police, and the county coroner, is working to confirm whether the remains are human and to establish an identity. Northeast Park remains closed until further notice, with community members advised to stay clear. No public safety threat has been identified at this time.
