City of Dixon and Numerous Fire Departments Responding to Explosion and Gas
Emergency at Chateau Estates
At approximately 6:00 a.m. this morning, the Dixon City Fire Department was dispatched to the 1500 block of Estates Road in Chateau Estates for a reported explosion involving a manufactured home.
One person was inside the residence at the time of the explosion. The individual suffered significant injuries and was transported to OSF Saint Katherine in Dixon. No additional information regarding the individual is being released at this time.
The Dixon Fire Department is leading incident command, with support from Dixon Rural Fire Department, Sterling Fire Department, Dixon Police Department, Dixon Public Works, Nicor Gas, Reagan Mass Transit District, Advance EMS, Dixon Public Schools, and numerous mutual aid fire departments and emergency response partners.
Due to elevated gas levels continuing to exist within the park, emergency personnel are in the process of evacuating the entire Chateau Estates community, which includes approximately 106 addresses and an estimated 300 to 400 residents. Residents are asked to follow the direction of emergency personnel and evacuate immediately when contacted.
An emergency shelter is being established at Reagan Middle School in partnership with Dixon Public Schools. Reagan Mass Transit District will provide transportation for residents who need assistance, and Advance EMS will assist with transportation for individuals with disabilities or medical needs as needed.
Residents and members of the public are asked to avoid the Chateau Estates area to allow emergency personnel to safely manage the scene. The cause of the explosion remains under investigation, and Nicor Gas is on scene assisting with gas monitoring and safety operations. Anchor Road from RT 38 to RT 52 will be closed until further notice.
