Illinois State Police Teach Kewanee Students Seat Belt Safety with Interactive Crash Simulator

Illinois State Police Trooper Jason Wilson visited Kewanee High School’s Summer Driver Education class with a hands-on lesson in seat belt safety. Students tested the Seat Belt Convincer, a device that places riders in a buckled chair about 20 feet up an incline before sliding them down to simulate a 5- to 7-mile-per-hour crash. The impact may be minor, but the message is clear: seat belts prevent injuries, even at low speeds. Students Sophie Hamilton and Abraham Diaz were among those who tried it. Safety Education Officers plan to use the device at the Illinois State Fair and other events statewide.
