Authorities in Colona responded to a call about a loose dog at the Nancy Trailer Court just before 11 AM on Monday, February 23, 2026. When officers began searching for the dog’s owner, they discovered a deceased man in the nearby Green River. Emergency crews, including the Colona Fire and Police Departments, began recovery efforts, bringing in additional responders and equipment. The body was recovered shortly before 1 PM. The deceased has not been identified as officials work to notify next of kin.
The Colona Police Department and Henry County Coroner’s Office are leading the investigation. Mutual aid from Coal Valley ensured continued emergency coverage during the response. No injuries to first responders were reported in what was a tragic outcome for the community.
