Black Hawk College and Western Illinois University have formalized a new partnership aimed at easing the transfer process for students in high-demand fields like engineering and education. Under this agreement, Black Hawk students who earn an associate degree with at least a 3.0 GPA will gain guaranteed admission to WIU, along with waived application fees and scholarship access. The collaboration provides clearly outlined degree pathways, coordinated advising, and support services to help students finish their bachelor’s degrees efficiently. The deal also features a reverse transfer option, allowing credits earned at WIU to count toward an associate degree from Black Hawk College. The agreement is set for five years, with room for future program expansion.
“This partnership is grounded in collaboration, trust, and a shared belief in the power of education to transform lives,” said Dr. Mary Barnes-Tilley, vice president for instruction and chief academic officer at Black Hawk College.
“By aligning our programs, we are removing barriers, reducing uncertainty, and opening doors,” she said.
“Western Illinois University and Black Hawk College offer excellent academic programs, services and opportunities for students to gain experience in the classroom and through internships,” said WIU President Dr. Kristi Mindrup.
“This renewed partnership reflects our shared mission to expand opportunity, promote social mobility and transform lives and our communities through education,” she said.
