The Teddy Bear Hospital at Black Hawk College welcomed nearly 80 children and their beloved stuffed animals for health checkups filled with learning and fun. Stuffed toys—from Clifford the Big Red Dog to unicorns—underwent X-rays, received bandages, and left with heartfelt prescriptions for hugs and kisses. The event, hosted by 26 students from the BHC Veterinary Technology Program, featured interactive stations and gave kids a hands-on look at veterinary careers. Organized in partnership with the Henry County Humane Society, the event also collected donations for the local animal shelter, raising nearly $400 and vital supplies for pets in need. “We were delighted with people’s generosity and thank them for supporting the college and the shelter,” said Louise Harrison, president of the Kewanee Animal Shelter Board.

The Black Hawk College Veterinary Technology Program is now welcoming applications for the Fall 2026 semester. Prospective students and community members are invited to an open house on Friday, February 20, from 1 to 4 PM. Attendees can explore program facilities, meet faculty, and learn about career opportunities in animal healthcare. BHC Student Ambassadors will be assisting during the event, providing insights into student life and program expectations. The open house offers a hands-on look at what the college has to offer for those passionate about a career in veterinary medicine. For more details, visit the BHC website.
