April 10th marks National Youth HIV/AIDS Day, drawing focus to the vital services offered by Henry & Stark County Health Departments and First Choice Healthcare Clinics. Residents in Kewanee, Colona, and Toulon can access a comprehensive PrEP/HIV prevention program. This initiative provides confidential safe sex education, HIV testing, and counseling on PrEP/PEP treatments. Prescriptions for prophylactic medications are available, with financial assistance ensuring coverage, even for those without insurance. Medicaid users receive full treatment coverage, and state resources assist others. This holistic approach aims to reduce HIV transmission and support community health.
This PrEP/HIV Prevention grant includes and provides to local residents:
- Completely confidential and inclusive safe sex education, including how to reduce the risk of HIV transmission
- HIV testing for general screening or post-exposure to HIV
- Assessment of individual risk and potential need for PrEP or PEP treatment
- Counseling about PrEP and PEP treatment and necessary monitoring
- Prescribing prophylactic PrEP medication (Oral or Injectable) OR
- Prescribing PEP medication, to reduce the risk of HIV after a possible exposure
