The Galesburg Police Department honors the retirement of K9 Zeus, effective February 2, 2026, coinciding with his eighth birthday. Over more than six years of service, Zeus became a key figure within the department, credited with expertise in narcotics detection, evidence recovery, and handler protection. K9 Zeus is being celebrated for a remarkable career, serving side by side with Officer Jake Taylor since late 2019. Known for his dedication and skill, Zeus became a vital member of the K9 Unit, instrumental in pivotal investigations—most notably, locating key evidence in a major stabbing case. In 2023 alone, Zeus’s efforts resulted in the seizure of over $170,000 in illicit money. His distinguished work not only bolstered public safety but also earned Officer Taylor Galesburg Area Crime Stoppers’ Officer of the Year. Recognized for his achievements, Zeus leaves behind a legacy of excellence and partnership. He’ll enjoy a well-earned retirement at home with Officer Taylor and his family.
