Galva Man Gets 6 Years in Prison for Burglary and Possession of a Stolen Vehicle

A 19-year-old Galva man accepted a plea deal for his five pending felony and misdemeanor cases that sent him to the Illinois Department of Corrections (IDOC) for six years. On April 23, 2024, Riley McLean pleaded guilty to possession of a stolen vehicle, residential burglary, two counts of retail theft, and criminal trespass to state land. A fitness hearing was conducted for Riley McLean on March 26th; he was found fit to stand trial. He waived his preliminary hearing and formal arraignment on April 1st. McLean was sentenced to two concurrent six-year terms in IDOC, plus three 364-day terms in the Henry County Jail.

Case 2023CF326: McLean was sentenced to six years in IDOC (concurrent to 24CF11), day-for-day credit, credit for time served, followed by one year of Mandatory Supervised Release (MSR), a $75 fine, and assessments. On October 21st, McLean committed residential burglary when he entered his aunt’s home, took keys to a Jeep, and stole the Jeep. Riley had been living with her, but he was kicked out three weeks prior to stealing the vehicle. The keys to the Jeep were in McLean’s pocket when he was found in Fairview Homes. Possession of a Stolen Vehicle and theft were dismissed.

Case 2024CF11: McLean was sentenced to six years in IDOC, day-for-day credit, credit for time served, followed by one year MSR, a $75 fine, and assessments for Possession of a Stolen Vehicle. On January 8, 2024, Police were dispatched for a subject trying to enter a garage on Simpson Avenue. The vehicle at the scene had been taken without permission. The subject who drove the vehicle found at the scene was identified as Riley McLean. The six counts of criminal trespass to vehicles were dismissed.

Case 2023CM180: McLean was sentenced to 364 days in the Henry County Jail (merge with IDOC Sentence) and a $75 fine for Theft. On October 20th, Kewanee Police were dispatched to Jay’s Liquor for stolen alcohol.  Riley McLean was identified as the subject from the camera footage.

Case 2023CM181: McLean was sentenced to 364 days in the Henry County Jail (merge with IDOC Sentence) and a $75 fine for Theft. On October 24th, Kewanee Police were dispatched to Walgreens for a subject who entered the store and stole a bottle of water.  The subject was identified as Riley McLean.

Case 2023CM187: McLean was sentenced to 364 days in the Henry County Jail (merge with IDOC Sentence) and a $75 fine for Theft. On November 2nd, Kewanee Police were dispatched to Fairview Homes for a subject who was knocking on doors and yelling.  Riley McLean was banned from state property in October. Possession of drug paraphernalia was dismissed.

Riley McLean was originally charged with Possession of a Stolen Vehicle (Class 2 Felony) and six counts of Criminal Trespass to Vehicles (Class A Misdemeanor) for case 2024CF11. Residential Burglary (Class 1 Felony), Possession of a Stolen Vehicle (Class 2 Felony), and Theft <$500 (Class A Misdemeanor) for case 2023CF326. Criminal Trespass to State Land (Class A Misdemeanor) and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (Class A Misdemeanor) for case 2023CM187. Retail Theft <$300 (Class A Misdemeanor) for case 2023CM181. Retail Theft <$300 (Class A Misdemeanor) for case 2023CM180.
