Great Dane has canceled second and third shifts for Tuesday into Wednesday, January 16th and 17th, due to the water main break that supplies water to Great Dane, MTM, and one residential address on Highway 34. According to Public Works Director Kevin Newton, the water main break has not been repaired partially due to the weather and because open trenching is not feasible at this time. The water main is approximately 10 to 15 feet deep, so open trenching to replace the main isn’t feasible with the weather. The City of Kewanee is working with a contractor to determine the options, including boring a new section of the water main. Kevin Newton said he hopes to have more information later on Tuesday. The water main break was discovered around 7:30 PM on Friday, and staff had to shut down the water supply to three customers along Kentville Road.
