Hammond-Henry Hospital has begun construction on a new outbuilding at its Geneseo campus to address multiple operational needs. This 40-by-48-foot facility, supported by over $142,000 in donations and local foundation grants, will feature two studio apartments designed to accommodate temporary medical staff such as traveling physicians and medical students, reducing hotel-related expenses. “This construction is much needed and has been made possible in part by donations from the Geneseo Foundation, the Francis G. & Betty J. Miller Foundation, a gift from the Hammond-Henry Hospital Endowment, and the Jo Ann Parsons Memorial, with a combined total of over $142,000,” said Katie Orwig, Hammond-Henry Hospital Foundation Manager. “For example, a locum physician may be covering an emergency department physician while on vacation,” said Orwig. “Currently, the hospital incurs hotel or rental costs for students and locum physicians. Adding these accommodations will be a cost savings.”

The building will also house two garage bays for hospital vehicles, offering protection from weather and vandalism. Additionally, expanded storage space will help meet ongoing departmental demands, optimizing resources as the hospital continues to grow and serve the community. “As large as the hospital is, storage is always in great demand,” said Orwig.
