Youth interested in technology can now sign up for a 4-H drone program offered by Illinois Extension and the Second Story Teen Center in Princeton. Running Mondays from October 20th through November 17th, from 5 to 6:15 PM, this hands-on series covers drone safety, flight basics, and practical applications, all using DJI Mini 4 and DJI NEO drones. The experience wraps up with a regional drone competition on November 22, where teams from Bureau, LaSalle, and Marshall-Putnam counties will show off their skills. Registration can be done in person on meeting days.
Local youth are invited to register in person for the upcoming meeting, with walk-in registration available on the day of the event. Anyone requiring accommodations to fully participate should reach out to Shasta Hladovcak at [email protected] or call 217-244-5812. Organizers urge participants to make requests early to ensure all access needs are met in time. Extension offices supporting the event are situated in Princeton, Ottawa, Henry, and at the IVCC campus in Oglesby.
This initiative aims to spark interest in STEM and aviation fields, providing practical skills and friendly rivalry for the next generation of drone enthusiasts.
