Roadwork is set to begin Monday, March 9th, along Illinois 81 in Kewanee, stretching from Union Street to Lexington Avenue. The Illinois Department of Transportation will start by removing trees in preparation for the future reconstruction of this corridor. Drivers should expect daily lane closures through March 31st, with flaggers directing traffic. Motorists are urged to obey posted speed limits, remain alert for workers and equipment, and avoid mobile device use in the zone. This project is part of the broader Rebuild Illinois initiative, which is investing billions to update roads and bridges across the state.

Illinois drivers can expect significant road improvements as the Illinois Department of Transportation rolls out its ambitious Rebuild Illinois program. Over the next six years, more than 7,100 lane miles of highways and 8.4 million square feet of bridge deck are scheduled for upgrades. This is part of a larger $33.2 billion investment targeting all transportation modes across the state. So far, nearly $20.8 billion has funded improvements to over 21,000 lane miles, 815 bridges, and 1,181 safety enhancements.
