Help Kewanee Food Pantry on the “Stamp Out Hunger Drive” on May 9th
Shelves are running low at the Kewanee Food Pantry, but hope is on the horizon as the Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive takes place this Saturday, May 9th. Residents are encouraged to place bags of nonperishable food items near their mailboxes, where letter carriers will collect donations for the pantry. High-need items include canned fruits and vegetables, tuna, chicken, pasta, sauce, cereal, rice, peanut butter, ramen, soups, muffin and corn bread mixes, macaroni and cheese, pancake mix, and syrup. Community participation is vital to help restock the pantry and support neighbors facing food insecurity.
The “Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive” was started in 1993 and has grown since then
Letter carriers are gearing up for the annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive, taking place nationwide on the second Saturday in May. This initiative invites residents to leave bags of non-perishable food items next to their mailboxes, where letter carriers will collect them during their regular routes. Since its inception in 1993, the drive has grown into the largest one-day food collection effort in the United States, providing critical support to local food banks and pantries. Organizers stress that the need is urgent and community participation can make a real difference in fighting hunger.
