Kewanee High School’s Tim Atwell has received statewide recognition as the Illinois Athletic Directors Association’s (IADA) 2025–2026 Athletic Director of the Year for Class 1A/2A. The honor was announced at the IADA State Conference Awards Dinner in Peoria on March 15th, where administrators from throughout Illinois gathered to honor leaders in school athletic programs. Coach Atwell’s leadership has emphasized student participation, program growth, and positive sportsmanship, making a lasting impact on Kewanee athletics. Superintendent Rebecca Baney and retired Superintendent Dr. Chris Sullens attended the ceremony to join in celebrating this notable achievement and Atwell’s dedication to student-athletes and coaches.
The annual award celebrates administrators who go above and beyond in supporting student-athletes, coaches, and school athletic programs. Atwell is recognized for fostering an environment focused on teamwork, character, and perseverance, while promoting positive sportsmanship and community spirit. His leadership has expanded opportunities for student involvement and growth across Kewanee’s athletic programs. The Illinois Athletic Directors Association highlights such achievements to further leadership, professional development, and excellence throughout interscholastic athletics statewide.
