Kewanee Man Charged with DUI and Assault after hitting a garage and crashing into a creek

A Kewanee man is facing multiple charges following a dramatic crash on May 23, 2026. Police responded to the alleyway between May and Florence Streets just after 9 PM, where they found a black SUV with significant damage near the creek. Officers identified the driver as 66-year-old Jeffery L. Weir, who had reportedly left a nearby graduation party on June Street, driving erratically. According to the press release, “Witnesses reported that Weir left the gathering operating his vehicle in an aggressive and erratic manner.” Weir allegedly lost control of the vehicle, struck a garage, and drove through residential yards before crashing into a creek. Officers found Weir in the vehicle and immediately began rendering medical aid. After being treated at OSF St. Luke Medical Center, Weir was taken into custody and transported to the Henry County Jail. The investigation continues.

Weir has been charged with Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol, Driving Under the Influence of Drugs, Driving Under the Influence – Combination of Alcohol and Drugs, Aggravated Assault with a Motor Vehicle, Driving While License Revoked, and Reckless Driving.
