The Kewanee Chamber of Commerce Director, Mark Mikenas, said Kewanee will see another record-breaking year for retail sales. Kewanee’s retail sector is painting a bright picture as third-quarter sales in 2024 have surged by 3.2% compared to the previous year, highlighting a potential upward trend as the year progresses. This increase is particularly noteworthy given that 2023 was a record-setting year with sales nearing $261 million. Notably, categories such as general merchandise and food have seen impressive growths of 3% and 5.8%, respectively. Apparel and small retail notably soared, with rises of 14% and 12.2%. However, sectors like drinking/eating and furniture/appliances experienced slight declines. With $198 million already in the books for the first three quarters, Kewanee is on track for another record-breaking year if the momentum continues into the final quarter.
