The Kewanee Community Unit School District #229 school board has approved a new collective bargaining agreement with the Kewanee Education Association (KEA), set to take effect on July 1, 2026, and continue through June 30, 2029. The KEA had already voted in favor of the proposal late last week. Both sides utilized interest-based bargaining, a negotiation method focused on collaborative problem-solving and mutual goals, with retired educator Ralph Grimm guiding the process. Special acknowledgment goes to Superintendent Rebecca Baney, KEA President Charley Eads, and the dedicated negotiating teams for their extended efforts in reaching an agreement. Rocio Morales also received thanks for her diligent work as negotiation secretary. The outcome is seen as a significant step forward, fostering a unified partnership aimed at prioritizing student achievement in the Kewanee community.
