Kewanee shows up to support Andrew Yarger and his family
Andrew Yarger was recently diagnosed with end-stage cancer. After losing their father in April, the family turned to the community to help with Andrew’s medical expenses and future funeral expenses.
There is a benefit happening today, May 16, 2026, at First Christian Church in Kewanee. There is still plenty of food, and the drawings will take place at 2:30. Head over to First Christian Church and get a delicious lunch, and grab raffle and 50/50 tickets. See the raffle items on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/share/v/1CcKAidtQ8/?mibextid=wwXIfr.
Andrew is well-known for sitting in front of his home on E 11th Street, smiling and waving at passing vehicles. On Thursday, dozens of vehicles participated in a drive-by parade for Andrew. Escorted by the Kewanee Police and Fire Departments, cars, trucks, UTVs, motorcycles, and a semi drove past Andrew’s home. The vehicles capable of doing burnouts burned some rubber for Andrew, which he loved. His sister, Jen, and mom, Sherry, were overwhelmed by the outpouring of support. Andrew and his family said they can’t thank the community enough for their support.
Andrew was named Abilities Plus Achiever of the Month for April 2026. Andrew is the sweetest person you will ever meet. If you are unable to attend the benefit and you want to donate, you can donate at the “GoFundMe for Andrew” setup by Jen and her family.
