A feel-good story this week comes from the generosity of the Kewanee Police Department.  The Kewanee Police Department surprised the Life Skills Class students at Kewanee High School with new basketball jerseys with funds raised while running the concession stand during the boys’ basketball game on January 17, 2024.  The game between the Life Skills students and the Kewanee Police Department was a hit last year, the Life Skills Basketball Team beat the “Pig Patrol” 54-51.  The Kewanee Police Department said in a Facebook post “We aim to redeem ourselves after our loss to the Life Skills basketball team last year.”  The rematch is on February 16, 2024, with the assembly beginning at 10 AM.  The Kewanee Police Department said they are eagerly awaiting a rematch and you can watch it live on our Facebook page on Friday morning.

The Facebook post from last year said, “The Kewanee Police Department was lucky enough to participate in a basketball game today at Kewanee High School. School Resource Officer Shaun Gruszeczka was able to arrange for the “Pig Patrol” basketball team to challenge the Kewanee High School Life Skills Basketball team to a game. There was a great turnout for the event as the Life Skills team was victorious over the Pig Patrol team 54-51. The game was also streamed on the Kewanee High School Sports & Special Events YouTube page. After the game, both teams got to sit down and have a pizza party to celebrate the win by the Life Skills team. We also want to thank the Kewanee High School students that coached the teams, officiated the game, ran the scoreboard, and cheered during the game. We can’t wait for the rematch next year!!”
