Freedom House has announced the election of Lori Nelson to its Board of Directors, highlighting a new chapter of leadership for the agency. With over forty years of experience in behavioral health, compliance, and executive administration, Nelson is poised to bring strategic vision and deep community insight to the organization. As the eldest daughter of Freedom House founder Nedda Simon, Nelson upholds a family legacy of advocacy and support for survivors of domestic and sexual violence. Her appointment is praised by CEO Michael Zerneck, who notes her expertise will help strengthen services and outreach. “Lori’s career reflects an extraordinary commitment to ethical leadership, quality services, and community collaboration,” said Chief Executive Officer Michael Zerneck. “Her extensive background in behavioral health systems, compliance, and strategic operations, combined with her lifelong connection to Freedom House’s mission, will be an invaluable asset to our Board and the families we serve.” Freedom House remains committed to offering confidential and free resources to victims across five Illinois counties.
