Macomb PD Honored With Award For March 2023 Homicide Investigation

MACOMB, IL – The Macomb Police Department was recently honored at the 2023 Illinois Homicide Investigators Association Conference (ILHIA).

In a press release, Macomb Police Chief Jeff Hamer announced that the department received an ILHIA “Award for Excellence” for the investigation of the homicide investigation for the March 2023 shooting that occurred on South Johnson Street that claimed the life of one and left 10 injured.

Additionally, Case Agent Det. Jordan Hawes was recognized for his excellence while conducting the homicide investigation with the highest level of professional dedication and diligence.

The ILHIA Award of Excellence, presented to the MPD for their investigation of the March 2023 shooting that resulted in the death of Jerman Bethea, 26, of Chicago.

To further recognize the excellence of the officers, detectives, and investigators who assisted in the homicide investigation, the Macomb Police Department presented awards on January 31st in the form of Letters of Commendation and Appreciation to those involved. The awarded officers not only included Macomb Police Department officers, but also
representatives from the Illinois State Police, Illinois State Police Crime Scene Services, McDonough County Sheriff’s Office, McDonough County States Attorney’s Office, and Western Illinois Office of Public Safety.

Chief Hamer expressed how proud of he was of these officers, noting that they have wished to not have their names or pictures released; instead opting to send their hearts, thoughts, and prayers to the victims and survivors of the ordeal.

Chief Hamer and Mayor Mike Inman would like to thank these agencies for their dedication and commitment to the safety of the Macomb community.
