Pedestrian struck by train succumbs to injuries at local hospital

A tragic accident occurred Thursday afternoon in Galesburg as police responded to reports of a train striking a pedestrian in the 800 block of Peck Street. Upon arrival, officers located a male victim suffering from life-threatening injuries. Emergency crews transported him to OSF St. Mary Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead. Authorities have not released the man’s name pending notification of family. The Galesburg Police Department is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident. The Knox County Sheriff’s Department, the Galesburg Fire Department, and the Galesburg Hospital Ambulance Service assisted with the accident.
