Joshua Sloan:. Joshua Sloan, 38, of Kewanee told Judge Colby Hathaway at his Preliminary Hearing that he wants to represent himself.  Joshua Sloan also said that he wanted Attorney Clark Miljush to represent him.  Judge Hathaway informed Mr. Sloan that is can hire any attorney he wants.  Sloan requested a continuance to hire an attorney because he works for the City of Kewanee Cemetary Department and can pay for an attorney.  He also requested a 402 conference.  However, 402 conferences can’t be conducted on the spot and need to be scheduled.  Sloan decided that he wanted to proceed with a Preliminary Hearing.  The State had concerns about Joshua Sloan’s fitness to stand trial.  Public Defender Lance Camp shares the same concerns regarding Sloan’s fitness.  Judge Hathaway also shared the concerns and ordered a fitness evaluation.  Attorney Lance Camp was appointed to the new cases.  Fitness Status is scheduled for March 18, 2024, at 10:45 AM.  Sloan will remain detained until trial.

Joshua Sloan is charged with Aggravated Assault of a Correctional Officer on February 23, 2024, and Aggravated Assault in a Public Place for throwing a bottle of water at the head of a Correctional Officer for case 2024CF64.  Aggravated Assault of a Correctional Officer (Class 4 Felony) and Aggravated Assault/Public Place (Class A Misdemeanor).

Sloan is charged with Obstructed the performance of a correctional officer on January 24, 2024, by grabbing the officer by the neck, causing redness and scratch marks to the back of his neck.  He attempted to disarm a correctional officer of his taser while the officer was restraining the defendant.  Sloan obstructed the performance of a correctional officer by ignoring commands from the officer and/or pulling his arms away while the correctional officer was attempting to restrain him.  There are an additional four counts against Mr. Sloan on this day in similar incidents for case 2024CF23.  Resisting Correctional Office (Class 4 Felony), Attempt to Disarm Correctional Officer (Class 2 Felony), and five counts of Obstructing (Class A Misdemeanor).

Sloan is charged with Aggravated Battery of a Nurse on January 19, 2024, for Aggravated Battery of a Nurse (Class 3 Felony) at OSF Saint Luke Medical Center in Kewanee for case 2024CF20.

Sloan is Charged with Attempting to Disarm a Correctional Officer on November 14, 2023, Sloan attempted to disarm a Kewanee Police Officer while the officer was attempting to arrest him, Resisting a Peace Officer with Injury on November 14th by striking the taser of a Kewanee Police Office, causing the taser probe to get stuck in the officer’s finger, Public Indecency for thrusting his hips while naked on his outside porch while neighbors and/or children were present, Resisting a Peace Officer for pulling his arms away from a Kewanee Police Officer during an arrest for case 2023CF358.  Resisting with Injury (Class 2 Felony), Resisting (Class 4 Felony), Public Indecency (Class A Misdemeanor), and Resisting a Peace Officer (Class A Misdemeanor).

Gage Peed:  Gage Peed said he intends to hire a private attorney and should have the money next month.  Gage Peed failed to report a change of employment to the Chief of the Kewanee Police Department within three days per the Sex Offender Registry Act.  Continue Preliminary hearing to February 20, 2024, at 2 PM.  Gage Peed is charged with Failure to report Change in Employment (Class 3 Felony).

Barbara Boss:  Barbara Boss is charged with stealing from the Kewanee Park District.  Her son is also charged with stealing from the Kewanee Park District for charging personal items to the park district credit card.  Sergeant Eric Peed, with the Kewanee Police Department, testified at the Preliminary Hearing that Barbara Boss admitted to using the park district credit card for personal use in her interview with Kewanee Police, which was recorded.  Parks Director, Andy Dwyer, contacted the Kewanee Police Department on August 30, 2023, with concerns that Barbara Boss was using the park district credit card for personal use.   Between July 23rd and September 23rd, there was under $500 from Sav-A-Lot and $1,601 from Walmart in purchases for personal use by Barbara Boss.  Barbara Boss had items purchased on the Sav-A-Lot charge account remaining in her vehicle after carrying the other items into the restaurant.  Barbara Boss was a cook at the 19th Hole restaurant and used the park district charge account and credit card to make purchases for use for the 19th Hole restaurant.  Barbara Boss said she doesn’t remember why those food items were left in her vehicle.  Judge Hathaway found Probable Cause and scheduled a Jury Pre-trial for February 22, 2024, at 2 PM.  Barbara Boss is charged with Theft from Government <$500 (Class 4 Felony).

Charles Doty III:  Charles Doty III accepted a plea deal on January 29, 2024, for putting a male subject in a chokehold on October 21, 2023, and punching him in the face.  Doty plead guilty to Aggravated Battery/Strangle and the two misdemeanor counts of Battery were dismissed.  Doty got 30 months probation, 180 days in the Henry County Jail, credit for time serve and day for day credit, must seek Anger Management Evaluation and Treatment, and fines and assessments.  The jail sentence is stayed pending compliance with the plea agreement.
