Sunday Shooting Leaves One Deceased, Investigation Continues in Sterling

On Sunday, February 19th, at approximately 11:32pm the Sterling Police Department was notified of a shooting that had occurred inside a private residence in the 1100 block 4th Avenue, Sterling. 

Upon officer’s arrival at the residence a male victim was found with a gunshot wound to the head. Attempts to provide care to the victim were unsuccessful and he was pronounced dead at the scene. The name of the victim is not being released at this time pending notifications to family. 

Sterling Police located (4) subjects that were with the victim at the time of the shooting. Those subjects are being questioned at this time. The weapon used was recovered at the scene. 

This is believed to be an isolated incident and there is no perceived threat to the public. 

This is an on-going investigation and no further details will be released at this time. 

Sterling Police were assisted at the scene by Whiteside County Sheriff’s Department, Sterling Fire Department, CGH EMS, Illinois State Police Crime Scene Services, and the Whiteside County Coroner’s Office.
