Starved Rock Foundation $1,000 Scholarship Award for Conservation-Related Career Study
A new annual scholarship will support Illinois Valley Community College students pursuing conservation-related careers. The Starved Rock Historical and Educational Foundation has established the $1,000 award, calling IVCC a natural partner because of its local roots and shared focus on education. Foundation president Matthew Klein, an IVCC graduate, says the effort reflects continued investment in education, recreation, and conservation at Starved Rock State Park. The nonprofit has contributed more than $500,000 since 1991 through donations, memberships, and proceeds from its volunteer-run LeRocher Bookstore and Gift Shop. “Collaborating with IVCC was a natural fit. Between our shared commitment to education, my own experience as a proud IVCC graduate, the college’s presence right here in Starved Rock Country, and the fantastic work of the IVCC Foundation, it was an obvious partner in establishing our first scholarship,” said Matthew Klein, president of Starved Rock Foundation. “We are proud to support local students interested in conservation and look forward to continuing to invest in education, recreation, and conservation at Illinois’ most visited state park.”
