Ten People Injured During Riot in Mary Davis Juvenile Detention Center

A riot broke out at the Mary Davis Juvenile Detention Center in Galesburg on Thursday that left 10 people injured and caused significant damage to the facility.  On March 27, 2024, the Knox County Sheriff’s Office responded to a fight at the Mary Davis Detention Center around 8 PM for juveniles who were actively battering staff. A total of eight staff members were injured, some were transported to the hospital for their injuries, and two juveniles were treated and released at the facility. The incident began as a fight but quickly turned into a riot in multiple areas of the facility.  The responding officers secured all the juveniles and assessed the injured staff and juveniles.  The interior of the facility suffered “significant damage, from the juveniles, according to the Knox County Sheriff’s Office. The investigation is ongoing and charges are forthcoming. The Galesburg and Knoxville Police Departments assisted at the facility.  “We would like to thank the Galesburg Fire Department and GHAS for your swift response and expedited treatment of patients,” said the Knox County Sheriff’s Office.
