Traffic Stop Leads to Seizure of Cannabis and Controlled Substances in Henry County

A Henry County Sheriff’s Office deputy seizes 200+ grams of a Schedule I or II controlled substance and 500+ grams of cannabis during a traffic stop on Interstate 80 near Atkinson.  On March 1, 2024, the deputy conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle with one headlight that had an expired registration.  The deputy determined there was probable cause to search the vehicle during the traffic stop.  The search discovered a criminal amount of cannabis and a substance suspected to be a controlled substance.  The driver, identified as Kevin G. Cunigan, 23, of Richton Park, was arrested and transported to the Henry County Jail.  Cunigan was released with pretrial release conditions.

Kevin Cunigan is charged with Manufacture/Deliver 200+ Grams of Controlled Substance (Class X Felony), Manufacture/Deliver Cannabis 500<2000 Grams (Class 2 Felony), Possession of 200+ Grams of Controlled Substance (Class 1 Felony), and Possession of Cannabis 500<2000 Grams (Class 3 Felony).  A Preliminary Hearing is scheduled for March 11, 2024, at 2 PM.
