Trichome Cannabis Company Grand Opening and Ribbon-Cutting on Monday, June 1st

Excitement is building in Kewanee as the cannabis dispensary officially opens on Monday, June 1, 2026. The official launch for Trichome Cannabis Company kicks off at noon with a ribbon-cutting ceremony hosted by the Kewanee Chamber of Commerce. Attendees can look forward to a festive atmosphere, with a variety of food trucks and other vendors set up in the parking lot. The wait is legitimately over for people who use cannabis for medical conditions, like cancer, or just to relax. The Cannabis sativa plant contains cannabidiol (CBD) and delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), which are two compounds that have medical benefits for people with chronic pain, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, depression, side effects of chemotherapy, epilepsy, and multiple sclerosis, to name a few.

You will need identification to enter the dispensary, and there are multiple checkpoints before you are allowed to purchase any cannabis product. Illinois residents may possess up to 30 grams of cannabis flower, 5 grams of concentrate, and 500 milligrams of THC in edibles. Visitors from out of state are limited to half those amounts. Consumption in public places, driving under the influence, and transporting cannabis across state lines are all prohibited by law. Buyers are reminded to purchase only from licensed dispensaries to ensure compliance and safety. More details are available at cannabis.illinois.gov. The double doors of the building are the entrance, and there is a separate exit back onto the parking lot. Remember to smile because the State of Illinois requires dozens of cameras, inside and outside, recording at all times.

Cannabis may legally be used only in private residences or at state-licensed on-premises consumption establishments. Using cannabis in public spaces — such as sidewalks, streets, parks, government buildings, or vehicles — remains illegal. Consumption is also prohibited on school property, near anyone under 21, or within correctional facilities. When transporting cannabis, it must be sealed, odor-proof, and stored out of passenger reach. Carrying cannabis across state lines or through airports is a federal offense

The business underwent a name change in early May but remains under the same management. Progress on the grow facility at Railroad and Coel Streets remains steady. Until the craft facility is up and running, President Chad Anderson said they will order product from other growers in Illinois. The craft facility will be surrounded by a fence and have 24/7 security at the gate and inside the facility. The craft facility will have some high windows for employee comfort, but the growing rooms will be windowless with special lighting for the plants. Once at growing capacity, the craft facility will bring a possible 70 to 100 jobs to the area.
