Former Orion star Logan Lee was drafted in the 6th round of the NFL Draft this week. Lee, whose talent took him to the University of Iowa as a Defensive Tackle, was taken by the Pittsburgh Steelers. Lee played for Orion Chargers Coach Chip Filler during his time at Orion and Coach Filler spoke with RegionalMediaNews.com about his former player…

According to Coach Filler, while Logan was happy to play for any team in the NFL his dream was to play with one team…

Coach Filler “Playing in the NFL has been his dream since he was a kid. He played in a youth league when he was in third grade. His dream is to play for the Pittsburg Steelers, but he will be happy to play for any team.”

According to Coach Filler “Logan was 16 when the college recruiting started.” Logan received an offer from Iowa and within a couple week he got more offers. He traveled all over the country to colleges that sent him offers. During these trips to college’s, Coach Filler’s 8 year old son (at the time) traveled with them. Coach Filler said he had a proud dad moment during these trips. He said Logan is the most genuine and kind person and Logan impressed those values on Coach Filler’s son. Coach said his son is kind and genuine, and plays football, like Logan.

The Orion Chargers were the best team in the region during Logan’s senior year but Logan didn’t get to finish out his senior because of an injury to his spleen. Coach Filler: “His spleen was bruised and only rest can heal a bruised spleen. Logan rested and fully healed and ended up winning the state championship in wrestling. Logan was state champion in wrestling his sophomore and senior years.”

Logan played basketball his freshman year. He asked Coach Filler if basketball or wrestling would get him to the NFL, and Coach Filler told him probably wrestling. Logan never competed in basketball again. Coach Filler said when Logan makes a decision, he goes for it. “He is very determined and disciplined.” Coach Filler didn’t take any credit for Logan’s successful journey to the NFL. He said his parents raised a great young man.

Coach Filler credits Logan’s success to his discipline and determination and his parents for raising an exceptional young man.
