Stuffed animals got a clean bill of health after visiting Black Hawk College’s Teddy Bear Hospital. The second yearly event offered veterinary care insights to 57 children, and their cuddly companions. With stations including weight check, X-rays, bandaging, heart rate, pharmacy and even surgery, the 19 BHC Veterinary Technology Program students were kept busy. The event, lauded by Dr. Lewis as blending imagination and medical care, aimed to ease nervousness about pet care. In collaboration with Kewanee Animal Shelter, the gathering also served as a donation drive collecting items for shelter animals. BHC’s Veterinary Technology Program is now accepting applications for Fall 2024 and will conduct an open house on February 23rd.
