The Kewanee Junior Varsity Riveters staged a dramatic comeback last night, overcoming a four-run deficit to claim a 10-8 win over the Monmouth United Red Storm at United High School. Jaxon DeReu led the way with four hits, while Reid Nichols drove in three runs and also pitched three innings as a starter. The Riveters tied the game late, and Nichols’ single in the eighth sealed the victory. Dane VanDeVelde struck out 10 in relief, helping to keep Monmouth United at bay. The Riveters notched 14 hits overall and faced off against the Sterling JV Warriors on March 23rd.

Kewanee Junior Varsity Riveters Storm Back To Defeat Monmouth United
Kewanee Junior Varsity Riveters trailed by as many as four, but came back to best Monmouth United on Friday at United High School, 10-8.
Jaxon DeReu collected four hits in five at bats in the win. DeReu doubled in the third inning, singled in the first inning, singled in the fifth inning, and singled in the sixth inning.
A single by Reid Nichols on a full count put Kewanee Junior Varsity Riveters on the board in the top of the first.
Monmouth United added one run in the second after #16 singled to left field on an 0-2 count.
Walker Colomer doubled down the left field line on the eighth pitch of the at-bat, which helped Kewanee Junior Varsity Riveters tie the game at seven in the top of the sixth.
Monmouth United took the lead in the bottom of the sixth. An error scored one run, to give Monmouth United the advantage, 8-7.
Easton Blake singled down the left field line, which helped Kewanee Junior Varsity Riveters tie the game at eight in the top of the seventh.
