Fourth of July Illinois State Traffic Enforcement Campaign

Kewanee Police are stepping up patrols as part of a statewide traffic enforcement campaign running June 19th through July 6th. Officers will be watching for impaired drivers and seat belt violations during one of the busiest travel stretches of the summer. The department is joining Illinois State Police and more than 200 local law enforcement agencies in the effort. Police say the goal is simple: prevent crashes, injuries, and deaths. Drivers are urged to plan, designate a sober driver, use rideshare if needed, and make sure everyone in the vehicle is buckled up before hitting the road.

“We want everyone to enjoy Independence Day, but we also want everyone to make it home safely,” said Chief Stephen Kijanowski. “If you plan to drink, use cannabis, or use any other impairing substance, make sure you have a sober ride. Our officers will be out looking for impaired drivers and making sure drivers and passengers are buckled up.”
