A Celebration of Life and Benefit for Miguel Martinez includes a golf tournament and taco dinner fundraiser

A celebration of life for Miguel Martinez is set for Saturday, June 20th, in Kewanee. The Fugly Open golf tournament will begin at 10 AM at Baker Park Golf Course, with a four-person scramble at $100 per player. Later, a taco dinner fundraiser runs from 4 to 7 PM at the Kewanee VFW on West Fifth Street, with meals priced at $15. Organizers say the day will honor Miguel with golf, food, laughter, stories, and memories. All proceeds will go directly to his wife and son following his peaceful passing, surrounded by loved ones.

Miguel Martinez, 36, a devoted husband, new father, son, and brother, lost his battle against cancer on June 12, 2026. Martinez was the beloved husband of Maribel Rivera and loving father to Lucas Juan Martinez. A graduate of Illinois State University, he built a successful career as vice president and disbursements product manager at JP Morgan, where colleagues knew his dedication and integrity. Away from work, Miguel enjoyed woodworking, gardening, coffee, and time with family and friends. Those close to him say becoming a father was one of the proudest moments of his life. He leaves behind a legacy of love, hard work, and devotion.
