Mosquito Season is Just Getting Started
Whiteside County health officials are urging residents to stay vigilant for West Nile virus in the area. The Health Department says it will continue monitoring local mosquito batches, but prevention starts at home. Residents are reminded to use insect repellent when outdoors, especially at dusk and dawn, and to remove standing water from buckets, flowerpots, gutters, birdbaths, and other containers where mosquitoes can breed. West Nile virus can cause fever, headaches, body aches, and in rare cases, serious illness. Officials say simple steps now can help reduce the risk throughout mosquito season.
