The City of Galesburg will get seven new vehicles as part of the Illinois Department of Transportation Consolidated Vehicles Procurement Program (CVP). More than 500 paratransit vehicles valued at $57.1 million were awarded to 113 transit providers to offer safe, reliable, and accessible transportation options in large and small communities throughout the state.

Kraig Boynton, Transit Manager stated, “GPT staff are thrilled to receive acknowledgement of this award. The last time IDOT released vehicles through this program was in 2019, and I give credit to our drivers and mechanics for their diligent work in keeping our existing fleet in working order to the best of their abilities. The addition of the newer, more reliable paratransit vehicles to our fleet is wonderful news for our organization and community.”

The City of Galesburg will also receive two additional battery-electric paratransit vehicles, with associated charging stations) through the Federal Transit Authority’s Low or No Emission Vehicle Program funding.

IDOT projects a delivery time of six months to two years for all vehicles listed above. The vehicles awarded to the City of Galesburg are mid-sized paratransit vehicles that will be incorporated into the Paratransit Program, which provides transportation services to those individuals unable to utilize the traditional fixed-route bus system. The new vehicles will also aid the fixed-route transit system, serving as backup vehicles, until IDOT authorizes vehicles specific to the fixed-route system. More information on transit services, including fixed-route buses and paratransit services, can be found here.
