Galesburg, Illinois, has been awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting by the Government Finance Officers Association for its financial report, marking a commendable 28-year streak. The report exceeded basic accounting principles, demonstrating transparency and full disclosure. The city’s commitment to clear communication of its financial matters through its report stands as an impressive achievement.

“The Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting is granted to municipalities that exceed the basic requirements of generally accepted accounting principles and produce annual comprehensive financial reports that demonstrate transparency and full disclosure,” said Bobbi Chockley, Interim Director of Finance and Information Systems for the City of Galesburg. “I commend Denise Hensley, who coordinates the audit for the city, and all other city staff involved in the audit process for achieving this award for the 28th consecutive year. As reporting requirements continually change, their hard work is truly impressive.”

The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.
