A Kewanee man got court supervision for battery after knocking a nurse down while attempting to leave his hospital room while he was on suicide watch.  Shawn Wall pleaded guilty to Battery/Makes Physical Contact on January 25, 2024, and Aggravated Battery/Nurse was dismissed.  Wall was sentenced to 12 months of court supervision, 30 days in the Henry County Jail (stayed pending compliance), seek a mental health evaluation and recommended treatment, and fines and assessments.

The Henry County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to Highway 78 and 400 N for a male subject that was jumping out in front of cars.  The subject fled into a cornfield when law enforcement arrived and a drone was used to locate the subject.  Officers had to tackle the male subject to place him in custody and transport him to OSF Saint Luke for a mental health evaluation.  Shawn Wall was identified as the male subject and he was placed on suicide watch after making suicidal comments.  A nurse was stationed at the door to Mr. Wall’s room because he was placed on suicide watch.  Mr. Wall allegedly knocked the nurse back attempting to leave the room.  Attorney Bruce Carmen argued that his client didn’t know where he was or that the person in the doorway was a nurse.

Shawn Wall was orginally charged with Aggravated Battery/Nurse (Class 3 Felony) and Battery/Physical Contact (Class A Misdemeanor).
