70-year-old Princeton resident, Tim Scott, became the first patient to receive proton beam radiation therapy at OSF HealthCare Cancer Institute in Peoria, Illinois. Scott sought treatment, following a prostate cancer diagnosis which was shared with him on Valentine’s Day 2024. Scott’s treatment path includes 28 sessions and he commends the efficiency and comfort provided by the medical team. The innovative treatment delivers high precision radiation, minimizing collateral damage to healthy tissue. OSF Cancer Institute, the only regional center beyond Chicago and St. Louis offering proton therapy, estimates to treat up to 3,700 cancer patients annually.
