McCombie Calls for Special Investigating Committee
In light of Democrat State Rep. Carol Ammons being charged with orchestrating an alleged scheme to receive cash kickbacks from illegal payments from her own campaign account and from local nonprofits for which she helped secure state grant funding,
House Minority Leader Tony McCombie said today it has been another disgraceful week for the Illinois government, driven by conduct by members on the Democratic side of the aisle and the failure of leadership to demand real accountability.
McCombie said this is no longer an isolated incident. She said it has become a pattern of scandal, silence, delayed accountability, and reform only after public embarrassment.
The Savanna Republican went on to say Ammons should resign immediately, Speaker Welch should publicly call for her resignation as he has demanded in other cases, and Governor Pritzker should do the same.
McCombie added that Illinoisans deserve consistency, not political cover-ups and the House has an obligation to protect the integrity of this institution independent of the criminal justice system.
