Staffing shortages have delayed the murder trial that was scheduled for the end of April against a Colona man charged with the battery and murder of his 14-month-old daughter in January 2022. On March 27, 2024, Defense Attorney Lance Camp and State’s Attorney Catherine Runty appeared before Judge Daulton with a joint motion to continue the Trial scheduled to begin on April 29th.  Due to shortages in the Public Defender and State’s Attorney Offices, they are unable to be ready for trial at the end of April.  The motion to continue was granted.  A status hearing and new bench trial dates will be scheduled through court administration.

Rahsaan Strawder is charged with 2 counts of First Degree Murder (Class M Felony), 2 counts of Aggravated Battery to a Child Under 13 (Class X Felony), and Aggravated Battery (Class 3 Felony).  Mr. Strawder is alleged to have battered a 14-month-old female child, causing her death on January 27, 2022.
