The prequel to Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, Wonka, starring Timothee Chalamet is coming to Kewanee this weekend. Our professional film critic, Sean Kernan, called the film a ‘surprising delight, while reviewing the film on WKEI this week. And it’s not just our favorite film critic who enjoyed Wonka, the film holds an 84% positive rating at RottenTomatoes.com. The prequel finds young Willy Wonka arriving in London, the chocolate center of the world, in this universe, hoping to make his late mother, played by Sally Hawkins, proud by opening his own magical chocolate shop. Standing in his way are a cabal of chocolatiers and a corrupt police officer played by Keegan Michael Key.

Wonka is a musical comedy and features several scenes of heartthrob Timothee Chalamet singing and a few nods to the musical notes of the 1971 original Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. Wonka is coming to the Wanee Theater beginning on Friday, December 15th, and, don’t forget to bring a winter coat to donate for Katie’s Coats for Kids. You will want to bring the kids to see Wonka this weekend so while you’re at it, pay tribute to Bud and Katie, by donating your old winter coats to Katie’s Coats for Kids! .
