January 1
While patrolling, officer noticed a freight train coming to a stop. The train blocked all of Galva’s railroad crossings for over an hour. BNSF was contacted and the train eventually moved along.
Officer was dispatched to the 00 block of NW 5th Street for a loose dog complaint. The dog owner arrived prior to the officer and took the dog back home.
Officer was dispatched to a loud noise complaint in the 100 block of NE 9th Street.
January 2
Officer assisted Henry Co with a vehicle search during a traffic stop west of town on Route 34.
Officer was dispatched to the 100 block of North Center Ave for a complaint involving a possible prowler dressed in dark clothing. Officer was not able to locate.
Officer was dispatched to Route 34 west of town to remove a deceased deer from the roadway.
While patrolling, officer checked on an unoccupied vehicle with interior lights illuminated on Wallace Street. A subject was loading a vehicle.
January 3
Officer was dispatched to the 500 block of SE 2nd Street to assist a subject who had lost his wallet. The subject later found the wallet in a work bag.
Officer was dispatched to the 00 block of NW 4th Ave to recover a possible illegal substance left behind by a previous tenant.
Officer was dispatched to the 200 block of SW 6th Ave for a 9-1-1 hang up call. It was determined to be a mis dial.
January 4
Officer was dispatched to the 100 block of NE 6th Street for a complaint involving the theft of two diamond rings. They were later found by the complainant inside the residence.
Officer was dispatched to the 500 block of NW 5th Ave for a prowler complaint. Officers checked the area, but did not locate anyone.
As the result of a traffic stop in the 500 block of SE 2nd Street, Patrick Hammons, 67, Galva, was cited for operating a vehicle when registration suspended for no insurance and operating an uninsured vehicle. He was released with a required court date.
Officer was flagged down by a subject that wanted to retrieve items from an impounded vehicle.
January 5
Officer was dispatched to assist the ambulance with a medical emergency on SW 6th Street.
Officer was dispatched to the 1000 block of NW 5th Ave for a residential burglary complaint.
Officer was dispatched to the 400 block of SW 3rd Street for a slow moving vehicle inspection.
Officer was dispatched to a disabled vehicle complaint in the 100 block of NE 3rd Street.
January 6
Officer was dispatched to the 500 block of NW 3rd Ave for a dog bite complaint. The dog was impounded at the Henry Co animal shelter in Cambridge as this is the 2nd time it has bit a human.
Officer was dispatched to the 500 block of SW 4th Street for an unknown alarm going off. It was determined to be a faulty smoke detector on resident’s front porch.
Officer was dispatched to the east edge of town for a reckless driving complaint. Officer located the suspect vehicle, but did not observe any violations to warrant a traffic stop.
As the result of a traffic stop in the 00 block of NE 2nd Ave, Billie Powell, 42, Galva, was cited for operating a vehicle when registration suspended for no insurance. She was released with a required court date.
Officer, along with Henry Co, were dispatched to the 300 block of Front Street, to remove an unwanted patron. The subject left prior to police arrival. Henry Co located subject and he was arrested for DUI-alcohol.
January 7
Officer was dispatched to the 100 block of Market Street for a motorist slumped over the wheel. Stark Co Medic also responded and determined it was a medical issue.
As the result of a traffic stop in the 00 block of SE 2nd Street, Brandon Dillon, 26, Galva, was arrested for driving while license suspended, improper use of registration, and operating an uninsured vehicle. He was taken to the Galva PD for processing and later released with a required court date.
Officer was dispatched to the 700 block of SE 1st Street for a loose dog complaint. Officer was not able to locate.
Citations
January 1
Michael Duytschaver, 22, Kewanee, was issued a citation in the 1000 block of SE 2nd Street for having a fully tinted windshield.
January 5
Everett VanStaden, 46, Neponset, was issued citations for having expired registration and operating an uninsured vehicle in the 00 block of Morgan Road.
January 6
Aaron Cate, 40, Monmouth, was issued citations for failure to secure new registration after transfer of ownership of a vehicle and having expired registration in the 200 block of SE 2nd Street.
Preston Yoder, 19, Granger, Indiana, was issued a citation for speeding in the 1100 block of SE 2nd Street.
