The City of Dixon is providing an update regarding Monday’s emergency response at Chateau Estates following the explosion that occurred in the 1500 block of Estates Road.
Anchor Road, the roadway serving Chateau Estates, has now been reopened. Residents of Chateau Estates are being allowed to return to their homes.
Residents should be aware that natural gas service will not be available tonight. Additional testing will be conducted by Nicor Gas in the morning, and Nicor will communicate directly with residents regarding the plan and timeline for restoring gas service.
The City of Dixon extends its sincere appreciation to the many agencies, organizations, and partners who assisted throughout today’s emergency response. The City would like to specifically thank Dixon Public Schools for allowing Reagan Middle School to be used as an emergency shelter, Reagan Mass Transit District for providing transportation assistance, the Dixon School District for providing buses for the emergency evacuation, and the Salvation Army and Red Cross for their support of residents and emergency operations.
“This was a significant and fast-moving emergency that required leadership, coordination, communication, and teamwork from every agency involved,” said Dixon City Manager Danny Langloss. “I was incredibly impressed by the professionalism of our first responders and partner agencies. They moved quickly, worked together, communicated clearly, and helped evacuate residents as safely and efficiently as possible. Today’s response showed the strength of our emergency response system and the deep commitment our people have to protecting this community.”
The City also thanks the residents of Chateau Estates for their patience and cooperation throughout the evacuation and response.
The cause of the explosion remains under investigation. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.
